South wins with a tie

South Team tied the North team and with the tie the South kept the All Star trophy.

The High School golf season ended at the Diamondback Golf Club in Loris with the annual Coaches Association North-South All-Star Matches.


The All-Star competition is played annually between senior golfers from the South Carolina High School League division of the Upper and Lower state.


The High School golf coaches accept nominations for the team and then a select panal chooses the North and South squads for the All-Star match.


The state championships gave a slight edge to high school golf teams from the Lower State.


Golfers made a quick turn around after state championship play was completed around the state on Tuesday to get to the All-Star matches practice rounds on Friday.


The first round was played using the alternate shot format.


The South Team came away with the early lead in the matches winning 2 1/2 to 1 1/2.

North Team Cameron Addis-Greenwood, Garrett Gillespie-Wren, James Rhodes-A.C.Flora, Owen Kinnunen-Blue Ridge, Casey Kosney-Dorman, Hugh Faulkner-Greenville, Caden Olsommer-Hanna, Perrin Dale-Byrnes, North Coaches Chip Whitt Greenwood, Assistant Coach-Amelio Rodriguez of Nation Ford


In the second round the North team got the best of the South team in the best ball format wining the day 3-1.


Trailing by a point the South team did just enough in the final round of singles to keep the trophy.


In the final round the South totaled 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 points.


The South teams rally to win the final round tied the overall score at 8-8.


Since the North did not beat the South, the South team kept the trophy.


The series which began in 1997 now stands at North. 15 South has 12 wins and now 1 tie.
