The team of Taylor Totland and Alice Chen were on fire midway through their first match at the USGA Four-Ball Championship at the Dunes Club in Myrlte Beach.
The two Furman teammates ran off a string of six birdies in eight holes to win a convincing 6&4 victory over Brigette Dunne and Alexander Rossi.
The two golfers led the stroke play qualifying finishing in a tie for the top spot in the match play field.
The two will match up with the 17th seeded team of Morgan Goldstein and Veronica Joels in a scheduled 7 AM match on Tuesday.
Thornblade Club’s Dawn Woodard and her partner Meghan Stansi lost out 2 & 1 to Brittany Fan and Esther Lee.

Todd White of Spartanburg and his partner Nathan Smith of Pittsburgh needed a birdie on the final hole to win a close match with Andrew Medley and Ken Tanigawa 1 up.
Two other Carolina teams advanced to the round of 16. Scott Harvey and Todd Mitchell won their match 5&4. David Kocher and William Rainey also won their first round match 4 & 3.
