Thomas Todd opened his round of 64 match with a bogey, but got back on track quickly to record one of the most lopsided wins on the first day of match play at the USGA Mid-Am championship.
Todd defeated David Bolen of Lubbock, TX 7&5. The Laurens golfer made six birdies in the match that ended on the 13th hole.
Todd will next face Todd Crawford of Indio,TX in a round of 32 match. Crawford finished stroke play as the 31st seed. Todd was the runner-up for medalist honors.
Todd White of Spartanburg lost out to three time West Virginia amateur champion Sam O’Dell.
The Spartanburg High School golf coach was eliminated from the championship 4&3.
Scott Harvey from Greensboro, the top amateur in the Carolinas, lost his round of 64 match to Chad Wilfong of Charlotte 3&2.
