Meadowbrook stays in the family

Meadowbrook Golf Club has been a family business since it opened in 1963.

Now the club will see an ownership change, but the new owners like the old operators will keep the course in the family.

Two brothers built and opened Meadowbrook Golf Club almost 60 years ago. Carson Deck and Kenneth Deck built the course and since its opening the club has been operated by family members of the two founders.

As the Deck families have looked at the changes occurring from the operations at Meadowbrook and to meet the future of Meadowbrook Golf Club, it has been agreed upon to change ownership within the family.

Family descendants of Kenneth Deck will now own and operate Meadowbrook beginning in 2020. These family members bring extensive golf experience to the course near Rutherfordton.

Alan Deck, a 20 year veteran of Troon Golf has managed golf courses across the country and will now be the Owner’s Representative. 

Also joining the new management and club staff will be Glenn Deck. Deck is a Golf Magazine Alumni Top 100 Teacher.

Additionally, Evelyn Deck Roberson and Paul Deck, along with other family members will be part of the leadership.

William Deck is retiring after 26 years as the PGA Professional at Meadowbrook.

William Deck has been the PGA professional at Meadowbrook for the past 26 years. Now after an outstanding career helping golfers enjoy the game and winning awards Deck has decided to retire. 

The long serving golf professional has done a great job over the years for Meadowbrook by teaching the game and doing much for the community and for golf.

Among the honors Deck has received was being recognized as a top junior leader in the Carolinas by the CPGA.

Deck will continue to offer lessons as an independent teaching professional at Meadowbrook.

Just a couple of years ago, one of his students enjoyed an almost fairy tale experience when she was chosen to play in the Wells-Fargo Pro-Am with Rory McIlroy.

Deck was both an instructor and also caddied for Grace Vaughan from Chesnee, when she won a national contest sponsored by The First Tee and Wells-Fargo.

Meadowbrook offers daily fee play and is open to the public, with golfers from around the area including the Upstate, Western and Central North Carolina making the short drive to the course.

Johnny Baker will continue his fine work as Greens Superintendent providing the excellent conditions, for a public golf course, found at Meadowbrook.

Meadowbrook Golf Club is located at 1211 Meadowbrook Road outside Rutherfordton, NC. Located near Spartanburg, SC, it is a popular golf course for many players in the Upstate of South Carolina as well.

Matt Griffin is the new Pro Shop Manager at Meadowbrook.

Johnny Baker will continue as the superintendent at Meadowbrook.
