Britt leads WSCGA Junior

Isabella Britt from Chesnee holds a 4-shot lead after the opening round of the WSCGA Junior at Mount Vintage.

Isabella Britt opened the first round of the Women’s South Carolina Golf Association’s Junior championship with a birdie and made a handful more on her way to the first round lead.

The Chesnee High School golfer carded two more birdies on the front nine to make the turn at 3-under par 33.

On the back nine Britt added a birdie and an eagle before suffering her only bogey of the day on the 17th hole.

The 2019 AAA South Carolina Coaches Association of Womens Sports player of the year finished the opening round with a par to post a 5-under par 67.

Britt finished her first round 4-shots in front of her high school teammate Sydney Roberts.

Roberts stayed within a shot of Britt until the 16th hole. Britt eagled the par 5 while Roberts bogeyed the hole.

Kennedy Gooding from Gilbert finished at 1-over par to be in third place.

Three golfers are tied for fourth place at 3-over par.

Phoebe Carles from Clinton, Adrian Anderson from Murrel’s Inlet and Emma Schimpf from Daniel Island are all 8-shots behind the leader.

Britt, Roberts and Gooding will be paired together for the second round at Mount Vintage Plantation in North Augusta.
