Two outstanding representatives of the game of golf will be joining the other 76 members of the South Carolina Golf Association Hall of Fame.

Walter Todd from Laurens and longtime PGA Professional Ron Cerrudo from Daniel Island will be inducted into the SCGA Hall of Fame as part of Golf Day at the Columbia Country Club next January.

Todd, not only has a Hall of Fame resume on the course, but has also been a leader in the game in both Carolinas. He served on the board of the Carolinas Golf Association for 13 years and was president of the CGA from 2010 to 2012.

After injury forced him to end his long and successful career as a PGA Tour professional, Cerrudo turned his attention to instruction. He has operated the golf school in his name at the Daniel Island Club and been recognized by both the Carolinas PGA and nationally by Golf Digest as a top teaching pro in South Carolina.

As a player you would not have to look very far down leader boards to find Todds’s name in any event he entered.

He won both the SCGA and CGA Mid-Am championships and has continued to finish on top now in Senior events. A victory in the 2017 Senior Jones Cup and the 2019 Senior Azalea championship go along with three SCGA Senior Player of the Year Awards and more than a handful of trips to USGA Championships.

As proud as he is of his individual achievements on the course, Todd and his sons Walter, Jr. and Neal have become the odds on favorites to take home titles in Father-Son CGA and SCGA tournaments.

“As a family we didn’t hunt or fish we played golf together. Having the opportunity to play with Walt and Neal and then to win was really special. I would get as nervous playing with them as I did in a any other,” said Todd.

Cerrudo turned pro after an All-American career at San Jose State. He was a member of the 1967 Walker Cup team with fellow SCGA Hall of Fame member Jack Lewis and represented the USA in the World Amateur team Championship.

As a PGA Tour player, Cerrudo won three times during his 11 year touring career. Since 2002 he has helped countless golfers of all skill levels enjoy the game through the Ron Cerrudo Learning Center at Daniel Island.

Todd and Cerrudo will be honored on January 13th at the Columbia Country Club during the 20th annual SCGA Golf Day annual meeting and celebration.
