The 2019 County champion fired a 65 to hold a 3- shot lead over three golfers including former champion Jeremy Revis.
Revis, Cam Baker and Connor Blackwelder all shot 68s to be tied for second place.
The Greenville tournament also includes the County Senior Championship and Gregg Moore shot a sizzling 64 to lead Ron Clontz by 3 shots with former County Champion Todd Hendley and Dean Nance tied for third at 70,

In Spartanburg former Byrnes High golfer Reed Bentley has come close to winning the county am in the last few years and his effort to win the title this year is off to a good start.
Bentley is on the top of the leader board after carding a 7-under par 65 at the Carolina Country Club.
In a Spartanburg County Championship you expect to see a Sill on the leader board and after round one Brad Sill is just a shot behind Bentley.
Another frequent contender for a county title, former Wofford golfer, Dustin Adair shot a 4-under par 68 to be third after the first 18 holes to tie with 2- time County Champion Robbie Biershenk,.
Three other past champions, Kevin Roberts, Daniel Stanley and Tyler Macolly are all close behind.
The Spartanburg tournament features a second division and Steven Boucher has the lead after shooting a 73 in the opening round.
