Reed Bentley set a single round scoring record on his way to the boys overall championship at the Upstate Junior Championship played at Smithfields Country Club in Easley.
Bentley shot a second round 6-under par 66 to take the boys 16-18 year old division title by four shots over Miles Baldwin.
Bentley was as hot as the nearly 100 degree day. He finished his first nine holes at 5-under par 31 to take the lead away from first round leader Drew Turner. The Byrnes High School golfer added a pair of birdies on the back nine, but finished with a bogey on the last hole to card the 66.
“I had shot a 67 in a tournament, but this is my best tournament round ever,” said Bentley. “I was pretty calm and after I got to 5-under on the front I was just kind of cruising,” he added.
Rhett Merritt, Colt Martin and Jordan Warnock finished in a tie for third place at 144.
Ashley Czarnecki added to her lead to win the Upstate Junior girls 16-18 division title and the overall girls championship. Czarnecki shot a 2-under par 70 to finish at even par for the two day event.
Beth Ann Townsend and Morgan Cox tied for second place while Jodee Tindal was alone in fourth place.
In the boys 13-15 year old division Levi Moody of Travelers Rest won his second title in the age group. Moody won his first title two years ago when he was 13. Now at age 15 he has two victories at Smithfields.
“I double bogeyed the first hole and it took me awhile to get going,” said Moody. “I think the birdie I made on number 14 was the difference,” he said.
Moody topped Zach Gordon and Bronson Myers by one shot for the championship. Moody had rounds of 74-75 for a 149 total.
Smithfields member Kerrington Lamb won the young girls division by two shots over Victoria Hall. Anna Grace Brock and Katie Whitfield tied for third place in the division.
Johnny Hyman won the boys 10-12 year old title at 5-over par while Nicholas Smith finished in second place.
