Levi Moody won the Greenville County championship earlier this spring and finished fifth in the South Carolina AAAA High School championship.
The Travelers Rest golfer continued his fine play in the first round of the South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship.
Moody shot a 5-under par 67 at Columbia Country Club to hold a two shot lead over four golfers.
Defending champion and South Carolina AAAAA High School champion Trent Phillips of Inman shot a 3-under par 69. He shares second place with Ryan Marter of Columbia, Harry Reynolds of Greenville and Walker Jones of Sumter.
The SC Class A champion Grant Sellers of McBee is tied for sixth place.
Jacob Bridgeman the SC Class AAA champion shot a 1-underpar 71. Bridgeman is tied with three other golfers including Zack Gordon of Gaffney for eighth place.
A pair of Lancaster golfers, Trey Crenshaw and Mason Tucker, are tied for the lead in the 13-14 year old division. The two golfers shot rounds of even par 72 to lead the division.
The field will be cut after the second round. The boys 15-18 field will be cut to the low 61 and ties. The 13-14 year old division will be cut to the low 16 golfers.
The tournament concludes on Thursday, June 8th.
