Roberts keeps the lead, Jennings takes the lead

The two big junior tournaments going on in South Carolina this week saw one event’s first round leader keep the lead and in the other a new leader took the top spot as both tournaments get set for the final round.

In Myrtle Beach at Arcadian Shores Chesnee’s Sydney Roberts shot a second round 2-under par 70 to go with her opening round of 69 to move to 5-under par and expand her lead.

Roberts now leads Madison Messimer from Myrtle Beach by 2-shots going into the final round on Wednesday.

Both Roberts and Messimer carded 5-birdies in their rounds, but Roberts was able to stay away from the big number. The difference between the two talented golfers was a double bogey Messimer carded on the par-3 eighth hole.

The closest golfer to the two leaders is Bluffton’s Camila Burnett who is at 1-over par to trail the leader by 6-shots.

The leaders tee off in the final round shotgun start at 8:30 on Wednesday morning.

Jennings shot a 2-under par 69 to take the lead from Bruns after the Beaufort golfer carded an even par round of 71.

Both golfers might want to be looking over their shoulders in the final round as last weeks SCGA Junior Champion Rowan Sullivan is now just 2-shots behind the leader.

The Charleston golfer finished his second round making birdies on four of his final six holes to be within striking distance of the leaders in the final round.

Ollie Rotermund from Daniel Island shot a second round 3-under par 69 to be in fourth place.

There is a fifth place tie between Mauldin’s Major Lenning and Greenville’s Hugh Faulkner. Each got to 2-under par posting identical scores of 71 and 69 each day.

Faulkner is fifth in the overall field, but he has the lead in the 13-14 year old division by a shot over Tyler Taber from Mount Pleasant.

Jennings, Bruns and Sullivan will be in the final group to tee off at 10:24 on Wednesday.
